Celebrate Pancake Day, the children’s most loved day of the year, with a traditional pancake race!
Pancake Day is traditionally celebrated with pancake races across the UK. It combines fun for the whole family and fundraising. Participants traditionally toss the pancakes in a frying pan while completing the course.
If you don't fancy running, you can simply watch, cheer on the others, or try a delicious pancake or two! Whether you like a traditional one with sugar and lemon juice or a savoury one, you are bound to find the one that suits your taste buds the best on this special day!
Where does it come from?
Pancake Day is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter – is traditionally a time of fasting.
Pancake Day became a great way to use the foods that were given up for Lent – milk, butter, and eggs. Pancakes have featured in recipe books as far back as 1439 and have been loved not only by the young ones, but also adults ever since!
